If you try to use the Open command on a file that is already being hosted you will get the error message you described, whereas if you use the Open Remote command you will instead be presented with the Hosts dialog and a list of files being hosted over the network. The difference is that to open a file directly, you use the Open command on the File menu, whereas to log in as a client you must use the 'Open Remote' command - also on the File menu. ![]() As Anatoli has hinted, it sounds as though you are trying to open the remote file directly (ie from a shared volume over the network) rather than opening it as a client from within FileMaker.
